KS2 SATs practice papers (Year 6)

3 timed practice papers that mirror the real thing's length and question count, marked question by question with a worked explanation. Two of the real papers are deliberately not here, and the reasons are below.

The papers

What is not here, and why

Two of the real KS2 papers are missing on purpose. Half-doing them would be worse than leaving them out:

Raw marks, not a scaled score

Real SATs convert a raw mark into a scaled score where 100 is the expected standard, and the Department for Education sets that conversion after each year's papers are sat. Any scaled score shown here would be invented, so the app reports the raw mark and the percentage and says plainly that this is not an official scaled score. Treat a result as "where is my child strong and weak", not as a prediction.

Practising the topics behind the papers

A paper tells you where the gaps are; the lessons close them. Every question links back to the chapter it came from.

Questions parents ask

Are these real past SATs papers?

No. Real past papers are Crown copyright and are free from the Department for Education — use those too. These are the app's own questions, written to the same topic areas, timed and counted to match the real papers' shape.

Which SATs papers are covered?

Maths Paper 1: Arithmetic; Maths Paper 2: Reasoning; English Paper 1: Grammar & Punctuation. English Paper 2: Spelling and English Reading are not covered.

Why is there no spelling or reading paper?

English Paper 2: Spelling: the real paper is read aloud by a teacher, and a multiple-choice substitute would test a different skill. English Reading: it needs three long unseen texts per paper — worth adding, but not worth faking.

Will it tell me my child's scaled score?

No, and no honest app can. The Department for Education sets the raw-to-scaled conversion after each year's papers are sat, so any scaled score here would be made up. You get the raw mark, the percentage and a breakdown of which topics went wrong.

Is the SATs practice free?

The maths papers sit in the free maths tier. English grammar and punctuation is part of English, which is a Premium subject with a 7-day free trial.
