Money is a test of our character. How we use it shows what kind of person we are — being kind, honest and generous is far better than being greedy.

Why this matters: Giving a little to those in need (sadaqah), being honest in a deal, and not wasting money are all part of good character. Money used kindly brings blessings and happiness to others.

Giving to those in need

Sadaqah means giving to help others, like the poor and the hungry. Even a small gift counts.

You have £2. You give 50p to charity.
£2 = 200p, and 200p − 50p = 150p, which is £1.50 left for you.
You still have plenty, and you have helped someone.

Being honest when buying and selling

An honest person gives the right change, does not lie about what they sell, and does not cheat. If a shopkeeper gives you too much change, the honest thing is to give it back.

Not greedy, content and sharing

Greedy means always wanting more and never sharing. Wasteful means throwing money or food away for no reason. Being content means being happy and thankful with what you have, and sharing it makes everyone happier.
