A Twinkl alternative for families teaching at home

Twinkl gives you a library and leaves the planning to you. If what you actually need is someone to say teach this tomorrow — with Islamic Studies already in the week rather than arranged separately — that is a different kind of product.

Maths and everything for under-7s are free, forever.

The honest difference: a library or a sequence

Twinkl describes itself as a home of teacher-created materials, and advertises over a million resources. That is its strength, and it is a real one. If you know you want a Year 4 fractions worksheet on Tuesday afternoon, Twinkl will have several, and they will be well made.

The work it leaves you is the week itself. Which topic comes before which, how long to spend, what to do when your child doesn't get it, and when to check they've retained it. Teachers do that from training. A parent who decided to home-educate three months ago usually does not, and it is the part most people find hardest.

Sasta Basta starts from the other end. You choose a starting year group and the days you can teach. It builds the timetable, interleaves the subjects, and rolls the plan forward when a day gets missed — which it will. The worksheets exist, but they sit inside a sequence rather than in a search box.

On price, go and look. We are not going to quote Twinkl's prices here. They vary by country and by tier, and a number copied into a web page goes stale without anyone noticing. Check Twinkl's own membership page against ours: Sasta Basta is free for Maths and the entire under-7s tier with no account and no card, and £6.99/month UK, $8.99 USD US, Rs 1,999 Pakistan unlocks the other ten subjects.

What Twinkl does better

Breadth, and it isn't close. A million resources against our 616 chapters is not a comparison we win, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. Twinkl also serves schools properly — display material, planning documents, assessment packs, things a classroom teacher needs and a home-educating parent does not.

If you are already happy planning your own week and simply want excellent printables to fill it, Twinkl is the better buy. Several families use both, and that is a perfectly sensible answer.

Where we think we're genuinely better

Islamic Studies is a subject, not a seasonal folder

Twinkl covers Religious Education and has material for Ramadan and Hajj. That is a different thing from a sequenced Islamic Studies curriculum. Sasta Basta teaches 84 Islamic lessons — aqeedah, seerah, fiqh, Qur'an — built with the same structure as maths or science, and scheduled in the same week. Your child's deen is not an after-school extra.

The plan survives a bad week

Every home-educating family loses days to illness, travel and life. A library doesn't notice. The plan here rolls forward, so a missed Tuesday doesn't quietly become a month behind with nobody tracking it.

Printing twice gives different numbers

On primary maths, the worksheet generator produces fresh questions each time, with an answer key that always matches the sheet in your child's hand. A fixed PDF library cannot do that — the second print is the same sheet.

Who should not choose us

If you teach a classroom, use Twinkl. If you want resources in a language we don't publish in, use Twinkl. If you need a specific craft activity for a topic we don't cover — and there are many — use Twinkl. We cover 11 subjects properly rather than everything partially, and we would rather say so than pretend.

Questions people actually ask

Can I try it without paying or signing up?
Yes. The whole of Maths and the whole under-7s tier are free forever, with no account and no card. You can print worksheets and have a child sit a test before you decide anything.
Is this only for Muslim families?
No. The curriculum subjects stand on their own and anyone can use them. It is built so that a Muslim family doesn't have to assemble a child's education from three places.
Which curriculum does it follow?
The British National Curriculum through to Cambridge IGCSE, with a US-standards mode. IGCSE is taught by international schools from Lahore to Dubai to Kuala Lumpur, so a family that relocates doesn't start again.
Can I use both?
Plenty do. Use the plan here to decide what the week looks like, and Twinkl when you want a different angle on a topic your child is stuck on.
