Mūsā (peace be upon him) is one of the greatest prophets, mentioned many times in the Qur'an. Allah sent him to the proud king Firʿawn (Pharaoh) of Egypt to call him to justice and to free the oppressed Children of Israel. Mūsā (as) is honoured as the one to whom Allah spoke.
Sent to Pharaoh
Pharaoh was a tyrant who claimed great power and treated the Children of Israel harshly. Allah chose Mūsā (as) and gave him signs, and sent him with his brother Hārūn (as) to deliver the message gently but firmly:
"Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. And speak to him with gentle speech." (20:43–44)
Mūsā (as) called Pharaoh to worship Allah and to let the Children of Israel go free, but Pharaoh answered with pride.
Allah's help and the parting of the sea
Allah supported Mūsā (as) with clear signs. When the Children of Israel finally left Egypt, Pharaoh's army chased them to the edge of the sea. The people feared they were trapped, but Mūsā (as) trusted Allah:
"No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me." (26:62)
By Allah's command, the sea parted and the Children of Israel crossed safely to the other side.
Receiving the Tawrāh
- Allah gave Mūsā (as) the Tawrāh (Torah), a book of guidance for his people.
- It taught them to worship Allah alone and to live with justice.
- The Tawrāh is one of the holy books Muslims believe in.
Lessons for us
- Stand bravely for justice, even before the powerful.
- Speak the truth with wisdom and gentle words.
- Trust Allah completely; His help arrives even when a way seems closed.
Put these events in the story of Mūsā (as) in order:
- Allah sends Mūsā (as) and Hārūn (as) to Firʿawn
- Mūsā (as) calls Firʿawn to worship Allah and free the Children of Israel
- Firʿawn refuses and the Children of Israel flee Egypt
- The sea parts by Allah's command and they cross safely
- Allah gives Mūsā (as) the Tawrāh
