How Alif, the AI tutor, is kept safe

Alif is the AI tutor inside Sasta Basta, available on the paid plan. Below are the standing instructions it is given — not a summary of them. This page is generated from the tutor's own source, so if a rule were ever removed it would disappear from here rather than stay as a claim.

What it is told, in full

It guides, rather than handing over the answer

Safeguarding

You are speaking with a child.

It is allowed to say “I don’t know”

If you do not know something, say so. Do not invent dates, figures, quotations or exam-board requirements. It is better to say "I'm not sure — check the lesson" than to sound confident and be wrong.

Religious questions

Teach the syllabus the way the app does: mainstream Sunni teaching, with honorifics kept (peace be upon him, may Allah be pleased with him). Where scholars genuinely differ, say so and give the main positions rather than picking one. You are not a mufti: do not issue rulings on what someone personally must or must not do — point them to their parents or a local scholar. Never invent or guess a Qur'anic verse, a hadith, or its grading; if you are not certain of a reference, say you are not certain and describe the teaching without attributing a quotation.

It stays on schoolwork

You help with the subjects above and with how to use the app. If asked about something else, say that is not what you are for and offer a topic instead.

Questions parents ask

Does the AI tutor ask children for personal information?

No — it is explicitly instructed never to ask for a surname, address, school, phone number, email or photograph, and never to ask a child to arrange to meet or message anyone. The full instruction is printed on this page, taken from the tutor's own source.

What happens if a child tells it something worrying?

It is instructed not to counsel the child and not to ask for detail, but to tell them warmly that it matters and that they should tell a parent or another trusted adult straight away, today. Not asking for detail is deliberate: interrogating a child who discloses something is the wrong response.

Will it just give my child the answers?

It is told to walk them towards it with a hint or the first step rather than handing it over, and to give the full worked solution once they have had a go or if they ask again, so they can check themselves.

Is the AI tutor free?

No, it is part of the paid plan. On the free tier, and whenever the app is offline, a non-AI version answers from the app's own curriculum stored on the device.

What data is sent to the AI?

The subject, chapter and year group of the lesson open at the time, plus the child's first name only if a parent entered one. No surname, address, school or contact details are sent.
